JAKARTA – Pelindo III will impose special tariffs for handling (handling) transhipment of domestic containers at the Port of Tanjung Perak Surabaya, East Java.
Pelindo III Managing Director Doso Agung said that the special tariffs were intended as an effort to reduce logistics costs in terms of port costs.
“Tanjung Perak Port has a strategic location as a link between the western and eastern regions of Indonesia. Therefore, the implementation of this special tariff is expected to reduce the cost of shipping goods and logistics competitiveness in the eastern region of Indonesia, “said Doso Agung.
While the amount of the special tariff is currently still being finalized and will be announced to service users. “It is still formulated by our internal team, in the near future we will announce and apply it for handling between terminals at Tanjung Perak Port,” said Doso.
He said, Tanjung Perak Port handles 72 domestic container shipping lines and has a very important role in logistics distribution to various parts of Indonesia and 75 percent goes to eastern Indonesia, so that cargo handling costs at Tanjung Perak Port will affect the logistics costs more or less.
POSITIVE BUSINESS
A maritime expert from Sepuluh November Institute of Technology, Surabaya, Saut Gurning, said that the implementation of special tariffs was a positive effort.
“This is fresh air for goods owners and shipping operators in the midst of various market difficulties, as well as the high burden of the business of national container transportation services so far,” he said.
According to him, the effort can provide new optimism for container business actors to continue to exist in support of stretching national maritime logistics.
“Specifically, the container cost efficiency plan will clearly impact the preference of goods owners and shipping to a number of container terminals in Tanjung Perak, as an attractive option for the location of Indonesian domestic container transhipment,” he concluded. (bi)
