Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The government through the Ministry of Industry (Ministry of Industry) is currently boosting the value of investment and exports from various domestic industries, and one of them is automotive. Because the production of vehicles in Indonesia currently has a large enough capacity, reaching up to 2 million units per year.
To support this, one of the targets for export destinations from Indonesia is Australia. In fact, the opportunity is quite wide open, with the current discussion of Indonesia-Australia economic cooperation Comprehensive Economic Partnership (IA-CEPA) still being discussed.
“At present, our automotive industry has a capacity of 2 million units per year, while for domestic needs 1.1 million units, and exports of 300 thousand units, the rest can be used to increase exports,” explained Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto, from the page officially Ministry of Industry, written on Thursday (01/10/2018).
Related to this, the Ministry of Industry has discussed with the Ministry of Finance (Ministry of Finance) to improve the structure of Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (PPnBM).
“If later the cooperation agreement with Australia has been signed, the export market there will amount to 1.2 million units,” he added.
In addition to PPnBM, the Indonesia-Australia agreement also stipulates the release of zero percent import duty on automotive products.

Responding to the import duty discourse, General Chair of the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), Yohannes Nangoi, said this was a good step for the government to increase Indonesia’s exports.
“One of our goals is to go there, that we expect a free trade agreement between Indonesia and Australia. Because Australia is a good car market for Indonesia, “he said when contacted by Liputan6.com, some time ago.
However, Yohanes said, sedan vehicles are cars with the best-selling market in the world. “The market if we see the sedan can be 30 million units per year, the market is large, Indonesia must be able to export sedans too,” he said firmly.
“This is what is being done by the Ministry of Industry (Ministry of Industry), namely tariff harmonization so that Indonesia in the future can make MPV, sedans, which are the best vehicles in the world,” he concluded.
